Breast Implants (Augmentation)

IMPROVE YOUR OVERALL BODY PROPORTIONS with more youthful, sensual, natural looking breasts. Breast implants can be filled with saline or silicone gel; textured or smooth; round or tear-drop shaped; placed above or below the muscle. There are also multiple techniques to consider, such as if using the Keller Funnel or temporary drains are the best options for you. When you come in for your consultation, bring a bra that is about the size you’d like to be and a sports bra, so you can try on implant sizers. There are lots of choices to be made regarding your new implants – talk to Dr. Harris about breast enhancement options and find the procedure that works best for your body.

Surgery and recovery

This procedure takes less than two hours and is performed under general anesthesia. Stitches come out at 2-3 weeks and most women return to work at that time.

A submuscular implant is placed under the muscle.

A submuscular implant is placed under the muscle.

If you have smaller breast volume and not much sagging, it may work best to place implants between the muscle and the rib cage, particularly with saline implants. This allows more natural tissue to cover the implant and may decrease the likelihood of contracture or hardening.

A subglandular implant is placed above the muscle.

A subglandular implant is placed on top of the muscle.

If you have more breast tissue or have slightly sagging breasts (often seen after breastfeeding), it may work best to place implants between your breast tissue and the pectoralis major muscle. This technique works well with silicone implants. Subglandular or subfascial implant placement also prevents implant movement when flexing the chest muscles, such as during weightlifting.
