Protruding Ears (Otoplasty) / Enlarged Ears

YOUR EARS are almost fully grown by age four, and the earlier children can have this surgery may mean the less teasing they’ll have to endure. Children who feel uncomfortable about their ears and want an operation are generally more cooperative—don’t insist on the operation until your child wants the change. Adults may also want this operation.

Many times, as we age, our earlobes enlarge which can make a person appear to be older. An “earlobe reduction” can restore a more youthful appearance and eliminate one of the “tell-tale” signs of aging.

Surgery and recovery

You can reduce the size and shape of your ears or have them pinned back so they rest closer to the side of your head. The operation can usually be performed in Dr. Harris’ facility in about two hours.

Dr. Harris will remove your stitches after two weeks. For the first two weeks after surgery, you need to wear a light headband to support your ears in their new position. You can continue to wear the headband for the next two months only at night.
